One of the largest Carnival’s in this world takes place in Nice on the French Riviera. Join more than one million visitors to celebrate the unforgettable spectacle that will be held day & night from 13th to 28th of February 2016.
The parade consists of 18 spectacular floats, fireworks and more than 1000 dancers that will turn Place Massena into a Fiesta. As for the Flower Parade, the elegant “flower battles” take place on the Promenade Des Anglais during the afternoon.
The earliest mention of Carnival celebration in Nice goes back to the 13th century, when the Count of Provence Charles d'Anjou spent "the joyous days of Carnival" in Nice.! Until the 18th century, Carnival was punctuated by masked balls and frenzied farandoles in the streets of what is now Old Nice. The 18th century carnivals were influenced by the Carnival of Venice.
Every year the carnival creates a special theme, this year its “King Of Media”. Were the Carnavaliers utilize new technologies and even scuptors to create artistic floats and characters. Some of lastest themes featured “Roi des Mascarades", “Roi de la Méditerranée”, “Roi des 5 continents”, “Roi de la Gastronomie" and “Roi du Cirque”.
